It is with deep shock and sadness that AFP learned of the tragic death of Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui – killed during a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters near the Afghan border with Pakistan.
A highly respected and admired journalist, and a Pulitzer Prize-winner, Danish was well known to many AFP staff – both in India where has was based and also across the agency’s wider network.
He won the prize, one of the most prestigious in journalism, for his picture of a girl screaming in the aftermath of a suicide attack in Kabul in December 2011.
